A perfectly sweet and spicy take on a classic chicken wing. These honey gochujang chicken wings were my go-to appetizer for the Super Bowl this year and they did not disappoint. Gochujang is a fermented Korean chili paste that adds a ton of flavor to marinades, sauces, or dressings. It makes these wings so delicious. I served mine with sesame seeds, chopped green onions, and dipped into a creamy ranch dressing!
I am obsessed with this sauce. I love the combination of gochujang and honey, it’s the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. Gochujang is a fermented Korean chili paste that is used a lot in their native cooking. It is a bit spicy, a little funky, and all the types of savory. If you don’t have access to fresh garlic or ginger, using a powder for either of these will be fine – but I always prefer fresh! If you’re using garlic and ginger powder for the sauce, use 1/2 tsp of each!
For these honey gochujang chicken wings, I used my air fryer! I like how crispy they come out and I have a large dual-drawer air fryer (linked here) that can hold a lot of wings at one time! If you’re using the oven for these, bake them at a higher heat, about 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with tinfoil, and bake. Flip the wings every 15 minutes until crispy and browned. Timing will depend on the size of the wings but oven may take about 40 minutes.
I topped my wings with some sprinkled sesame seeds and chopped green onions. Neither of these are necessary but I like them for both flavor AND aesthetic. I like the pop of green! I dipped these in a homemade ranch dressing which was the perfect sauce to offset the spiciness and sweetness!
As always, let me know if you make these in the comments! xoxo!
